MIAMI, Fla. -- Florida International University defeated the Providence College Friars, 2-1 in overtime, in women's soccer action on September 8, 2000 at Miami, Fla.
The Golden Panthers recorded the game's first goal at 29:38, when junior forward Michele O'Brien (Plainview, N.Y.) beat Friar freshman goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.). Providence tied the game at 1-1, when senior midfielder Jill Flanagan (Yorktown Hts., N.Y. scored at 54:08. Flanagan converted on a header off of a corner kick from freshman Marianna McDonald (Littleton, Colo.) to record her first career goal.
Florida International won the match at 102:22, when junior forward Sasja Odenyo (Uppsala, Sweden) scored on an Annelie Lindborg (Oxie, Sweden) pass.
PC's Haines made seven saves in goal, while FIU's Adrienne McWilliams (Broken Arrow, Okla.) stopped five Friar attempts.
With the loss, PC's record falls to 2-3-0 overall while FIU improves its record to 2-1 overall.
The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 10 when they travel to Miami, Fla. to take on the University of Miami at 1:00 p.m.
