Lynchburg, Va. -- The Providence College Volleyball team defeated Liberty University, 3-2 (15-6, 12-15, 18-15, 5-15, 15-9) in the first round of the Liberty Invitational on Friday, September 8.
The Friars were led by junior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.), who registered 26 kills and 16 digs, and junior Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.), who posted 17 kills and 22 digs. Sophomore Susan Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) recorded 42 assists for PC.
Liberty was paced by Rachel Harnack, who had 28 kills and 10 digs, and Simone Turner, who tallied 14 kills.
Providence is now 5-0 overall and returns to action on Saturday, September 9, when they take on American University (10:00 a.m.) and Gardner-Webb University (2:00 p.m.) in the second round of the Liberty Invitational.
