NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The University of Notre Dame defeated the Providence College Friars, 5-1, in women's soccer action on September 3 at Notre Dame, Ind. Notre Dame was led by freshman forward Amy Warner (Albuquerque, N.M.) who netted her first three collegiate goals.
Warner got the Fighting Irish on the board first when she dribbled past the Friar defense to beat PC freshman goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) at 8:38.
The Friars tied the game at 1-1, when sophomore back Katie Auger (Putnam, Conn.) scored on a high lob from 25 yards away. Auger's tally at 17:34 marked her first collegiate goal.
UND's Warner scored her second goal of the game when she received a pass from junior Mia Sarkesian (Canton, Mich.) on the left side. Warner continued to dribble past the Friar defensive corps and score on a low shot to beat PC's Haines at 22:45.
Notre Dame capped off its scoring barrage with three second half goals. Freshman Amanda Guertin (Grapeville, Texas) converted on a pass from sophomore Ashley Dryer (Salt Lake City, Utah) at 47:35. Warner earned her third goal of the game, when she scored on a half volley off of a cross from the right side at 75:16. The final goal of the game was recorded by Dryer at 78:25 from a corner kick by senior Meotis Erkison (Kennewick, Wash.).
The Friars return to action on Friday, September 8 when they travel to Miami, Fla. to take on Florida International at 4:00 p.m.
