Connecticut Huskies (0-0-0, 0-0-0): The Huskies open the 2000 campaign with a BIG EAST Northeast Divisional tilt at Providence. Last season, Connecticut posted an impressive 17-8-0 overall record and a 5-0-0 mark in the BIG EAST. Connecticut advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game where they were defeated by Notre Dame, 4-2. Following the Conference Championship, Connecticut won two games in the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated by Santa Clara in the Quarterfinals. This year's squad will be led by junior forward/midfielder Mary-Frances Monroe (East Northport, N.Y.) who has tallied 39 goals and 23 assists throughout her collegiate career. Junior Shanna Caldwell (Willamsburg, Va.) is the team's top returning goalkeeper. She saw action in 14 games last season, making 32 saves while posting a 1.64 goals against average.

Providence College Friars (2-0-0, 0-0-0): The Providence College Friars open the home portion of their schedule when they host Connecticut on Wednesday, August 30. Providence returns home after winning both games at the Black Bear Inviatational held at the University of Maine on August 26-27. PC won its season opener on Saturday by defeating Marist College, 2-0. In that game, senior co-captain Melissa Crowley (Duxbury, Mass.) and Kate Lyden (Bellingham, Mass.) each scored a goal, with Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) contributing an assist on both tallies. The Friars earned their second victory of the season with a 4-0 win over Iona on Sunday. Sophomore forward Kyle McAuley (Trumbull, Conn.) netted two insurance goals in the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) posted two shutouts at the Invitational as she turned away seven shots over the two-day period. Wednesday's game marks the 18th all-time meeting between PC and Connecticut with the Huskies holding a 16-1 edge. Last season, the Huskies defeated Providence, 3-0, at Storrs, Conn.
