Providence, R.I. -- Providence College junior Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) was named ECAC/Heaton Goaltender of the Week on February 7, 2000, for the second consecutive week. This marks the fourth time this season that DeCosta has received this honor, with the first two coming on October 25 and January 10. DeCosta helped the Friars to a 1-1-0 record this past weekend, posting a 1.00 goals against average and a .970 save percentage.
Versus Brown, on February 5, the junior netminder recorded 40 saves in the 3-1 Friar loss. On February 6, DeCosta recorded 24 saves, for her seventh shutout of the season, 1-0 victory, at top-ranked Harvard. The shutout marked the first time Harvard had been shutout since March 1, 1997, versus Princeton. Providence's win over top-ranked Harvard was the school's first victory over a top-ranked team since the 1996 season, when the men's hockey team upset Boston University in the Hockey East semifinals.
For the season DeCosta's record stands at 13-6-3 with a 1.29 goals against average and a .953 save percentage.
DeCosta is the daughter of Frank and Nancy DeCosta. The Friars will return to action on February 12, at Niagara University at 2:00 p.m.
