PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Joel Salvi scored a career-high 17 points, including 15 in the second half, to lead Rutgers over Providence 69-60 in the Big East on Saturday.

Dahntay Jones scored 14 and Todd Billet added 13 for the Scarlet Knights (13-10, 5-6), who earned only their second Big East road victory in five years in the league.

Erron Maxey scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Providence (8-16, 1-10), which suffered its 10th loss in a row. The streak is the Friars' worst since 1949, when they lost 12 in a row.

Providence led for most of the first half, behind Maxey's eight points and seven points apiece by Abdul Mills and Jamaal Camah. The Friars led 35-30 at halftime.

David Murray's two free throws gave Providence its biggest lead, 45-34, with 14:26 left in the game. Rutgers began to chip away at the lead by capitalizing on the Friars' fouls.

Rutgers outscored Providence 35-15 the rest of the way, making 20 of 28 foul shots. Jeff Greer hit two free throws to give Rutgers the lead for good, 52-51, with 7:14 remaining.

Rutgers shot 56 percent from the floor in the second half, compared to 30 percent for Providence.

Providence's 7-2 center, Karim Shabazz, was held to six points and five rebounds before fouling out with five minutes left. He averages 13 points and nine rebounds per game.
