Laksa Paces Friars To Victory

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence College, behind a career-high 24 points by forward Maris Laksa, rolled to a 73-48 win over Boston University Thursday night.

Laksa was 7 of 8 from the field, including a perfect 4 of 4 from 3-point range, and a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line to lead Providence (8-3).

Boston University (6-4) stayed close only for the first five minutes, taking a 9-7 on an inside basket by Jerome Graham.

Providence then erupted for a 25-9 run the rest of the half, paced by Laksa's 13 first-half points, to take a 34-18 halftime lead.

Boston U. was held to 22 percent shooting in the first half, making only 7 of 31 attempts from the field.

Providence continued the momentum in second half, increasing the lead to 56-18 before Boston scored its first basket. The lead grew to as wide as 29 points, 56-27, on a 3-point play by Christopher Anrin with 9:29 left.

Abdul Mills posted double figures for Providence with 10 points. Marcus Douthit pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for Providence.

Paul Seymour led BU with 11 points.

Boston was held to 27 percent shooting for the game (17 of 63) while Providence shot 23 of 53, including 7 of 17 from 3-point range.
