PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Holy Cross College, 93-77, on Wednesday, December 20th in front of 695 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The win was the Friars fourth-straight non-conference victory this season and was the final contest for Providence before the Christmas break.

The Friars (5-4 overall/0-1 BIG EAST) were led by the play of senior Jen Gombotz (Southington, Conn.), who scored a team-best 22 points. Teammates Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.) and Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.) each added double-doubles in the victory, as well, for the Friars.

Roberts scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had two assists and blocked a shot in 28 minutes for her third double-double of the season. Quinn scored 12 points in the win and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds in the win. She added a career-high seven assists and had two steals in 30 minutes.

Providence led at the halftime break, 49-36, in an up-tempo first 20 minutes. The Crusaders (5-6 overall) never cut the Friars' lead to under 10 points in the second half, as PC opened as much as a 24-point lead at 7:21 (81-57) on a Gombotz jumper.

Rounding out the Friars who scored in double figures was junior Chrissy Vozab (Amenia, N.Y.). The junior guard scored 17 points with six rebounds and three assists.

Elisa Zawadzkas led all scorers for Holy Cross with 23 points. She added nine rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in the defeat.

Providence continues its' recent winning ways, sandwiching wins over non-conference foes Rhode Island (87-65), Siena (77-66), Fairfield (82-75) and tonight's win the 2000 BIG EAST Conference opening loss to Seton Hall (61-74), which occurred on December 7th.

The Friars break for Christmas and return to action on December 31st when they travel to Princeton University to face the Tigers. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Jadwin Gym.
