PROVIDENCE, R.I. --Junior Kim Mathias notched two goals and one assist as the Providence College Friars defeated the Boston College Eagles, 4-0, in women's college hockey action on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at PC's Schneider Arena.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 14:04 mark of the first period. Jenn Butsch took control of the puck behind the Eagle's net, she then skated in front and snapped a low wrist- shot that beat BC goaltender Sharon Vantuyl. Holley Tyng assisted on the play. At the 17:52 mark, Kim Mathias extended the Friars lead to 2-0. Jessica Tabb fired a shot from the right slot that deflected off of Vantuyl's pads. Mathias collected the rebound and scored her sixth goal of the season, from Tabb.
In the second period, Meredith Roth tallied the Friars' third goal of the game, a power-play goal at 19:26. Darlene Stephenson received a pass from Kim Mathias at the blue line, she moved in on Vantuyl and fired a shot that deflected off her pads. Roth skated in the front of the net and put away the rebound, for her third goal of the season.
Mathias notched the game's final goal, her second of the night at the 3:21 mark of the third, assisted by Stephenson and Angela Hill.
PC goaltender Crystal Nicholas finished with 6 saves. VanTuyl recorded 32 stops for the Eagles.
With the win, the Friars improved to 8-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in ECAC action, while BC dropped to 2-9-0 and 1-9-0 in league play.
Providence College will return to action on Saturday, December 2, versus Maine at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
