PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars defeated Findlay University, 5-2, in women's ice hockey action on Sunday, October 29 at Findlay, Ohio. Providence earned its second consecutive victory over Findlay behind the offensive explosiveness of junior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) who tallied two goals and one assist.
Freshman Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa) gave Providence a 1-0 lead at 6:28 when she scored on a pass from freshman forward Gayle Shalloo (Scottsdale, Ariz.). Providence took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission as Tabb scored her first goal of the game at 11:08 and added what proved to be the game winner at 19:56.
Findlay got on the board early in the second period. The Oilers narrowed Providence's lead to 3-1 when junior forward Monell Schroeder (Redmond, Wash.) converted on a power-play attempt at 1:20 of the second period. Providence responded to Findlay's goal less than one minute later. Junior forward Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored on a pass from Tabb at 2:12 of the second period to give PC the 4-1 advantage.
Providence added another insurance goal at 6:25 of the third period when sophomore forward Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) connected on a pass from Beth Wolf (Hibbing, Minn.). Findlay added a goal with under eighth minutes remaining in the contest but were unable to upend the Friars who gained their second victory of the season.
In goal, Friar junior netminder Brigid Keady (Northfield, Ill.) stopped 23 shots while sophomore Erin Blair (Lisle, Ill.) recorded 30 saves in the loss for Findlay.
Providence College will return to action on Saturday, November 4 when it opens the home portion of its schedule versus Yale University at PC's Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
