BOSTON -- The fourth-ranked Providence College men's cross country team scored 39 points and captured its league leading 14th BIG EAST title on Friday, October 27 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. PC's 17th-ranked women's team scored 71 points and placed second behind Boston College (38 points).

In addition to winning PC's first men's team title since 1998, senior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) won the men's individual title in a time of 23:21. His time of 23:21 was the fourth fastest time in the history of the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship and the fastest since Villanova's Marcus O'Sullivan finished in 22:48 in 1983. Kelly's victory marked the sixth time a member of the PC men's team has captured the BIG EAST individual title.

Junior Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand) also ran a strong race for the Friars, finishing second in a time of 23:34. Junior Dermot Galvin of Kilrush, Ireland (10th - 23:54), sophomore Adam Sutton of Preston, England (12th - 24:02) and junior Paul Reilly of Loughrea, Ireland (14th - 24:11) also scored for the Friars.

Junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. was PC's top women's finisher, placing fourth in a time of 17:19.
