HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate University defeated the Providence College Friars in overtime, 4-3, in field hockey action at Hamilton, N.Y., on Sunday, October 22. Colgate junior Kristine Thomas scored the winning goal less than three minutes into overtime to give the Red Raiders the win.
Colgate took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Lauren DiCioccio with 33:57 remaining in the first half. The Friars took a 2-1 lead on consecutive goals by senior Breanne Wojnarowicz at 24:36 and freshman Casey Geary at 10:44, before Colgate senior Johanna Harvey tied the game at 2-2 with 5:13 remaining in the first half.
Wojnarowicz scored her second goal of the game at 15:23 of the second half to put the Friars ahead, 3-2. However, freshman Devon Graham scored 46 seconds later to force a 3-3 tie.
Less than three minutes into overtime, Thomas tallied the game winner for the Red Raiders.
Colgate sophomore Sara Corcoran recorded seven saves in the victory. PC senior goalkeeper Heather Tattersall registered five stops in the loss.
With the win, Colgate improved to 3-13 overall, while Providence fell to 6-13 overall.
Providence College will play its final game of the regular-season against Harvard on Wednesday, October 25 at PC's Hendricken Field at 3:00 p.m..
