Providence, R.I.... --The eighth-ranked Providence College Friars defeated the St. Lawrence University Saints, 4-0 in women's hockey action, on January 30, at PC's Schneider Arena.
The Friars' Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) netted the first goal of the game, the eventual game-winner, at the 11:42, on a pass from Stacy Kreger (Indianapolis, Ind.), Christa Talbot (Lake Forest, Calif.) also assisted on the play. Junior Jessica Tabb converted on a pass from Mathias, a power play goal, at the 18:25 mark of the first, giving PC a 2-0 lead.
Halfway through the second period, Tabb added her second goal of the day, when Mathias took control of the puck behind the net and fired a pass to Tabb, at the top of the crease, extending the Friars lead to 3-0.
Freshman Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) registered the Friars' final goal at 16:02 of the third, assisted by Tabb and Valerie Bono (Woburn, Mass.)
Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) stopped 25 shots in goal, recording her sixth shutout of the season, while St. Lawrence's Emily Stein saved 26 shots.
Providence record stands at 15-5-3 overall, 9-4-3 in the ECAC, the Saints drop to 12-11-0 overall, and 7-9-0 in the ECAC.
The Friars will return to action on Feb. 5, at Brown University, at 1:00 p.m.
