PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers University defeated Providence College, 3-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action on Sunday, Sept. 19 in Piscataway, N.J.

Rutgers got on the scoreboard early in the contest when senior midfielder Christian Schwarz scored on a penalty kick at 10:14 into the game. The Scarlet Knights increased their lead to 2-0 as junior forward Rafael Solano broke down the left side of the field and blasted a shot high into the right corner of the net past Friar goalkeeper Danny Glynn at the 27:14 mark.

Senior midfielder Michael Eisenhut scored on a penalty kick at 69:40 to bring the Friars within one goal. However, senior forward Brian Piesner scored with 3:27 remaining in the game to seal the win for the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers senior goalkeeper Jon Conway made eight saves in the win. Glynn recorded six saves in the Friars' first loss of the season.

With the victory, Rutgers raised its record to 2-1-2 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 2-1-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Monday, September 20 at Villanova at 3:00 p.m.
