Friars Fall to UConn, 4-1 in Field Hockey

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by the University of Connecticut Huskies today, 4-1 in the BIG EAST opener at Hendricken Field.

The Huskies gained a 2-0 advantage in the first half after a goal by senior Carrie Mahoney and a penalty stroke by Nicole Castanguay. In the second half, the Huskies added another goal at the 25:14 mark as senior Marya McAndrew (Providence, RI) scored with an assist by junior Laura Klein.

Providence got on the board as senior Erica Hebert (Enfield, CT) retreived her own rebound and netted her second goal of the season. The Huskies added their final goal as Klein pulled out PC goalie Andrea Weyl and slid it past her in the corner.

Providence goalie Andrea Weyl made six saves while UConn goalie Danielle Vile recorded three saves.
