PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Head Field Hockey Coach Bill Davidson today announced the appointment of Cheri Herr as assistant field hockey coach.
Herr comes to Providence College after serving as the assistant field hockey coach at Fairfield University for one season. At Fairfield, Herr was responsible for the coaching and planning of all goaltending related areas, as well as assisting the head coach with various administrative tasks. Herr was also a field hockey graduate assistant at her alma mater, Syracuse University, from 1996-1998.
"Cheri is a solid addition to the field hockey program at Providence," Davidson said. "She will utilize her athletic and coaching experience to help us continue to rejuvenate our program at Providence."
Herr is a native of New Holland, Pa. and graduated from Syracuse in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education degree. While playing field hockey for Syracuse, Kerr received numerous accolades. She was named to the BIG EAST All-Conference team in 1993 and 1995 as she led her team to the BIG EAST Championship both years. She is the current record holder for career saves, save percentage, goals against average, single game saves, and shutouts at Syracuse.
Last year, Providence finished its season with a 5-15 overall record and a 2-3 mark in BIG EAST play.
