Michnowicz Earns GTE Academic All-District I Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI - It was announced on March 29 that Providence College seniors Gladys Ganiel (Harrington, Maine), Sarah Dupre (Kingston, Ontario) and Jed Michnowicz (Santa Clara, CA) earned 1998-99 GTE Academic All-District 1 Fall/Winter At-Large honors. Ganiel was named to the First Team while Dupre and Michnowicz received Second Team accolades.
Ganiel, a political science major, has earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.99 in her four years at Providence. It marks the fifth time Ganiel has earned GTE Academic All-District 1 At-Large honors. She also has been named to the GTE Academic All-America At-Large Team three times.
This fall, Ganiel helped the PC women's cross country team capture the New England Championship and finish first at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. She was the Friars' third finisher at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on November 23.
Dupre, an english major with a 3.27 cumulative GPA, was PC's top runner this season. She won the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship and was the Friars' first finisher in six of the team's seven races. A three-time All-American, Dupre placed 37th at the 1998 NCAA Cross Country Championship. On March 27-28, she represented Canada at the World Cross Country Championship in Belfast, Northern Ireland and finished 71st in the 4,000 meters in a time of 17:10.
Michnowicz, a computer science and management major with a 3.29 cumulative GPA, is the all-time top swimmer at the college. Becoming the all-time leading scorer as only a junior, Micnowicz continued his strong performances as a senior and will graduate holding 17 school records.
