NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Providence College Friars defeated Yale, 5-3, in women's hockey action on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Yale's Ingalls Rink.
The Friars jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead on goals by Holley Tyng at 4:44 and Val Bono at 8:17. Yale got on the scoreboard at 14:38 of the first when Sue Barnes rifled in an unassisted goal past Friar netminder Brigid Keady.
PC added two more goals in the second period by Katie Lachapelle at 1:57 and Tina Schairer at 4:05 to take a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs made the game close in the final period with two goals by Barnes (12:43) and Sara Wood (19:42), but Corinne Rosen scored an empty net tally to seal the victory for the Friars.
With the win, Providence raised its record to 5-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in ECAC action, while Yale fell to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Providence College will return to action against Princeton on Dec. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Princeton, N.J.
