PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Friars and the Northeastern Huskies skated to a 2-2 tie in women's ECAC hockey action on Sunday, Nov. 15 at PC's Schneider Arena.
After a scoreless first period, NU's Brooke Whitney tallied the first goal of the game as she one timed a shot past PC sophomore goaltender Sara DeCosta at 10:36 of the second period.
The Friars evened the game at the 12:00 mark of the third period when freshman Kim Mathias blasted in a shot from the right point. Kathryn Waldo slid a low shot into the net at 14:32 of the third to give the Huskies their second lead of the game. With 4:44 remaining in the game, PC senior Myia Yates fired in a wrist shot from the right face off circle that found the back of the net for the final goal of the game.
Neither team generated much offense in overtime as NU outshot the Friars, 3-2, in the extra stanza.
DeCosta made 33 saves for the Friars. Shannon Myers registered 17 stops for Northeastern.
With the tie, Providence moved to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in ECAC action, while Northeastern is 2-0-2 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
Providence College will return to action against Dartmouth on Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Providence.
