Providence College jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Kerstin Matthews poked in a rebound at 1:31 of the first period. The Purple Eagles tied the game at the 6:57 mark of the first period on Allison Coomey's goal. Brooke Bradburn put Niagara ahead, 2-1, when she one timed a shot past Friar netminder Sara DeCosta from the bottom of the right face off circle at the 16:28 mark of the first. Corrine Rosen broke in on Niagara goaltender Tania Pinell and lifted a shot through her pads to tie the game with a short-handed goal at 19:55 of the first.
The Friars broke the 2-2 tie with the only goal of the second period to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes of play. Jess Tabb redirected Val Bono's shot from the right point during a power-play to give PC the lead.
After Reid's heroics to tie the game, neither team was able to generate any offense in the overtime period
DeCosta made 17 stops in net for the Friars. Pinell recorded 32 saves in the tie for Niagara.
With the tie, Providence's record moved to 18-10-3 overall and 14-7-3 in ECAC play, while Niagara moved to 10-14-2 overall and 8-14-2 in league play.
Providence College will return to action at Boston College on Saturday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m.
