Newark, Del. - The Providence College Friars turned nine hits and seven University of Delaware errors into nine runs on the way to a 9-4 win at the Delaware Diamond in Newark, Delaware on Friday afternoon.

The win ran PC's winning streak to five-in-a-row and improved the Friars to 11-3 on the season. Delaware falls to 1-9 for the year. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon in Newark.

Senior righthander Josh Burnham improved his record to 3-0 on the season with his second complete game of the year. Burnham gave up ten hits, walked two and struck out five in the win. Delaware's Dave Mullin pitched seven innings, giving up seven runs, but only two of them were earned as his record fell to 1-3 on the year.

The Friars fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first as Blue Hens' slugger, Kevin Mench drilled a two-run homer, his fourth of the season. Mullin would keep the Friars at bay until the top of the sixth when freshman Neal McCarthy hit his first first collegiate home run. Then Delaware's fielding went south. Keith Reed got on via an error to shortstop Peter Maestrales. A walk to Mike O'Keefe put runners at first and second. Jeremy Sweet grounded to third where Frank DiMaggio threw the ball away allowing Reed to score. A walk to Paul Costello loaded the bases. Jamie Athas grounded out to first for one rbi and Dan Conway delivered a sacrifice fly and the Friars had four runs on just one hit.

Two errors in the seventh led to three more Providence runs and ended Mullin's day. The Friars would get one run each off relievers Nick Spiewack and Rich McGuire. McGuire surrendered a solo home run to Mike O'Keefe in the ninth, his third homer of the season, to close out the scoring.

The Friars 2-3-4 hitters, McCarthy, Reed and O'Keefe each went 2-for-4 in the game with a pair of runs scored.
