Providence, R.I. - The Providence College Friars saw their current winning streak go to 11 games as PC swept a doubleheader from the University of Maine Black Bears on Saturday afternoon at Hendricken Field.

The Friars won the opener, 7-3, and then rallied with five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the nightcap, 13-2. The win improves the Friars to 17-3 on the season while Maine falls to 7-9 overall.

In game one, freshman designated hitter Neal McCarthy had a pair of solo home runs and fellow freshman Mike Scott sealed the 7-3 win with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. Scott and junior rightfielder Keith Reed each had three hits in the game. Senior Marc DesRoches pitched his second complete game of the season giving up three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts to improve to 4-1 on the year. Maine starter Jim Bailin took the loss to fall to 1-2.

Game two was a wild one as the Friars rallied from a 7-3 deficit to go ahead 8-7 only to see Maine take a 12-8 lead with a five-run ninth. Providence then pulled out the win with a five-run ninth of its own for a 13-12 win. Mike Scott drove in the winning runs with a one-out two-run triple off down the rightfield line off lefty Tom Morelli that scored Jamie Athas from second and Dan Conway from first.

Sophomore lefthander Brett Donovan got his first collegiate win by striking out Maine's Jon Hambleton with a runner on second and five runs home in the top of the ninth. Matt Truman (1-2) took the loss in relief of starter Rob Worcester.

PC was led offensively by sophomore Mike O'Keefe who was 3-for-3 with a pair of two-run homers for four runs batted in. Sophomore catcher Dan Conway had his first career homer among his three hits in the game and drove in three runs while Angelo Ciminiello started PC's five-run ninth with a two-run home run.

Maine was led by Quin Peel, Mike Ross and Hambleton as each had three hits in the game. Peel, Ross and designated hitter Chris Domurat each drove in two runs.
