TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Neil McCarthy had three hits and four runs batted in and Angelo Ciminiello added a grand slam as second-seeded Providence ripped the fourth-seeded Citadel Bulldogs 12-1 in an elimination game of the NCAA Division I Baseball Regional at Tallahassee on Saturday.

McCarthy staked the Friars (48-15) to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with his 16th home run of the season. Providence added two more runs in the second and scored six in the fourth.

Ciminiello's grand slam, his 14th home run of the year, gave him the school record for career RBI with 163.

"What happened today is indicative of how we play," said Providence head coach Charlie Hickey. "We jumped out on top early by being aggressive at the plate. Then our pitching and defense was solid."

Friar starter Andrew Scott (7-2) scattered eight hits over eight innings and allowed just one run to pick up the win. The Citadel ace Brian Wiley lasted just 1.1 innings and gave up five runs to fall to 9-3.

The Friars will play the loser of this afternoon's Florida State-Jacksonville game in another elimination contest at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

The Citadel ended its season at 41-20.
