Box Score

Cambridge, Mass. - The Harvard Crimson used a seven-run third innings and pounded out a season high 14 hits to snap the Providence College Friars' five-game winning streak with a 13-6 win at Harvard's O'Donnell Field on Thursday afternoon. The game matched two of the top teams in New England as the Friars rank first while Harvard is fifth.

The loss dropped the Friars to 31-11 overall while the Crimosn improve to 14-12 on the season.

Freshman lefthander Ryan Lewis was the recipient of some shoddy fielding as he lasted just three innings giving up 11 runs, but just five were earned. He falls to 5-2 on the season. Harvard's Mike Giampaola picked up his first win of the season to go to 1-0 on the year as he give up five earned runs in five-and-2/3 innings.

PC jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Angelo Ciminiello, his tenth of the season. Rbi doubles by Harvard's Jeff Bridich and Erik Binkowski in the bottom of the second put Harvard ahead to stay, 4-2.

In the third, Harvard scored seven runs with six being unearned. The key hit was a three-run homer by shortstop Mark Mager.

The Friars rallied in the top of the sixth with four runs highlighed by Dan Conway's three-run homer, his eighth of the season, but that was as close as the Friars would get as relief pitchers Donny Jamieson and Ben Crockett did not give up a hit over the last three-and-1/3 innings.

For the Friars, Ciminiello and Mike Scott led the way with two hits each. Junior Keith Reed saw his 21-game hitting streak snapped as he was 0-for-3 in the game. He has now hit in 38 of the Friars' 42 games this season.

Todd Murray (four innings) and Brett Donovan (one inning) pitched the final five innings for the Friars giving up just six hits and one earned run.

The Friars now travel to Seton Hall for a BIG EAST doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. Game time both days at South Orange, New Jersey is 12 noon.
