PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Friars defeated Boston University, 3-2, in overtime in field hockey action at PC's Hendricken Field on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The Friars were led by junior Erica Hebert (Enfield, Conn.) who tallied all three goals.
BU junior Christine McDavitt (Walpole, Mass.) tallied the first goal of the game on a penalty stroke at 34:02. Hebert evened the game at 1-1 with 21:50 remaining in the first period. Two minutes after Hebert scored, the Terriers regained the lead on a goal by senior Candice Lilienfeld (N. Dartmouth, Mass.)
Hebert netted the only goal of the second period with a shot from inside the circle at 25:21.
After playing scoreless for most of the first overtime, Hebert converted the game-winning tally off of a pass from freshman Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) at the 2:00 minute mark.
Providence junior goaltender Andrea Weyl (Ridgefield, Conn.) recorded 26 saves between the posts while Boston University senior goaltender Noreen Flanagan (Red Bank, N.J.) registered five stops.
Providence improved to 4-12 overall while Boston University fell to 9-6.
