FRIARS IN SEASON OPENERS...The loss to Holy Cross in Saturday's home opener gives PC a 63-10 record in season opening games in the school's 73-year basketball history. The loss was also the Friars' first home opening loss sicne November 29, 1984 when PC lost to Assumption, 70-67. That broke a streak of 14 consecutive home opening wins. The Friars are now 49-5 in opening games at home and 14-5 in road openers. PC lost its opening game last year to Vanderbilt, but the game was part of the CoSIDA Classic and the Civic Center was considered a neutral court.

POINT PRODUCTION...The 43 points scored by the Friars in the 54-43 loss to Holy Cross (11/20/99) is the fewest points the Friars have scored in a game since December 27, 1982 when they lost by an identical 54-43 score to the University of Hawaii in the Rainbow Classic.

FRIARS VS. RANKED TEAMS...The Friars were 4-6 last season against teams ranked in the Top 25 by the Associated Press and/or USA TODAY/ESPN. Today's game versus #2/#2 Michigan State is the Friars' first this season against a ranked team. The last time PC faced a team ranked as high as second was January 14, 1995 when the Friars lost at #2/#3 Connecticut, 70-62. The last time PC defeated a team ranked as high was March 12, 1994 when the Friars defeated #2/#2 Connecticut in the BIG EAST semifinals, 69-67, on the way to the BIG EAST title. Current Texas coach Rick Barnes was the coach of that team.

TURNOVER TROUBLES...The young Friars have had problems protecting the ball through the first two games this season. PC has had 26 turnovers in each of the first two games. Luckily for the Friars they have forced 49 turnovers in the first two games, an average of 24.5 per game.
