PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Kim Lanzire scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Brown Women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Providence College Tuesday afternoon at Brown's Aldrich Field.
Bekah Splaine also scored for Brown while the Friars got their lone goal from freshman midfielder Kyle McAuley (Trumbull, Conn.). The loss closes out the season for the Friars as they finish with a 6-11-1 record, 1-4-0 in the BIG EAST's Northeast Division. The Bears are currently 3-11-2 overall with one game left in Ivy League play.
Brown scored all three of its goals in the first half. Lanzire started the scoring at 6:26 directing a corner kick from Splaine past Shayna Ross (Sr., Whitman, Mass.). Lanzire then set up Splaine at 12:06. Lanzire closed out her big day as she headed in a corner kick from Weslee Daughters at 43:30.
The Friars got on the board at 59:01 when McAuley drilled a loose ball past Brown goalkeeper Elise Roy for her second goal of the season.
That was as close as Providence would get as the Friars were outshot in the game, 12-8. Ross made six saves in goal for PC while Roy made five for Brown.
The six wins by the Friars was the most since the 1994 season when that team won eight games. Ross came up one shutout short of the Friars' single season and career records as she had six and 11 respectively. Ross' career came to an end as she made 55 consecutive starts in goal and owns the school's save record with 473 stops.
