Storrs, Conn. - Sophomore midfielder Alexa Borisjuk scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the University of Connecticut Huskies to a 3-0 win over the Providence College Friars in a BIG EAST Northeast Conference game on Thursday afternoon.
The loss drops the Friars to 3-7-0 on the year and 1-3-0 in BIG EAST play. Connecticut picked up its eighth straight win to improve to 8-4-0 on the year and 4-0-0 in the league.
The Huskies scored once in the first half and twice in the second as they outshot the Friars 18-1 on the afternoon.
Freshman Lauren Naida scored her third goal of the season to put UConn on top 1-0 in at 39:27 of the first half. Borisjuk upped the lead to 2-0 at 49:20 as she converted a corner kick from Jen Carlson. She then set up Casey Zimny with a crossing pass at 83:34 for the final of 3-0.
PC's Shayna Ross (Sr., Whitman, Mass.) made seven saves in the game while UConn's Maria Yatrakis got the shutout without making a save in the game.
The Friars return to action on Sunday, October 10th when they travel to Syracuse for a noon game against the Orange.
