Anthony Randall was named head swim coach / aquatics director at Providence College on June 23, 2026. Randall, who spent the previous five seasons as head coach at Marist, replaced John O’Neill, who announced his retirement after two stints as the Friars’ head coach, totaling 36 seasons. Randall will embark on his first season as the Friars' head coach in 2026-27.
Randall oversees all aspects of the Providence College men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs and oversee the daily operations of Taylor Natatorium as aquatics director.
Prior to his arrival at Providence College, Randall spent five seasons as head coach of the swimming and diving programs at Marist (2021-26). Randall coached and mentored 21 conference champions, two MAAC Rookie of the Year honorees (2023, 2024) and three Senior Sportsperson of the Year recipients (2023-25). He guided the men’s swimming & diving team to the 2024 MAAC Championship title and earned MAAC Men’s Coach of the Year that same season. Additionally, his swimmers set more than 50 school records during his tenure with the Red Foxes.
Randall also spent five seasons at Fresno State (2016-21), where he served as assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach for women’s swimming. During his tenure, he helped guide the Bulldogs to their highest conference finishes and point totals in school history, including several individual conference champions.
Randall began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Rhode Island. He served as the associate head swim coach from 2011-16. While with the Rams, he helped produce multiple school and conference record holders, in addition to URI’s second NCAA “B” Standard Qualifier in program history during the 2012-13 season.
Prior to assisting the varsity program at URI, Randall served as the head men’s club swimming coach from 2010 to 2011. The squad captured the 2011 National Club Championship and enjoyed its first undefeated regular season.
In 2014, Randall was the recipient of the CSCAA Jean Freeman Award for Assistant Coaches. The award is given, annually, to six collegiate assistant coaches whose exceptional contributions have brought recognition to their institution, and whose leadership, integrity, honesty, competitive attitude and personal graciousness epitomize those characteristics reflected by Jean Freeman - the first woman to become a full-time Division I head coach. Randall also was named the Sullivan North Conference Female Coach of the Year (2007-08) and was the runner-up for Rhode Island Female Coach of the Year (2007-08).
Randall graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism / public relations. He was a four-year member of the men’s swim and dive team and served as a team captain as a senior. Randall was an Atlantic 10 Finalist during each of his four years competing for the Rams and competed in the 50 and 100-yard free in addition to being a member of the 200 and 400-yard freestyle and medley relay teams.
A native of Harrisburg, Pa., Randall is married to his wife, Corrie. The couple has son, Janai, and daughter, Kalani.
