Long time Friar Diving Coach Newell Roberts heads the 2026-27 Providence diving program in his 33rd year. Having coached most of his career alongside former Head Coach John O'Neill, he now teams with the Friars' first-year Head Coach Anthony Randall. All of the Friars' school record holders on the boards have competed under the guidance of Roberts.

Roberts, a former All-American swimmer and diver at Keene State College, competed on the national level as a Masters Diver. Roberts has also coached club diving for over 30 years. He and wife, Patrice, have two children, Santana, and Newell Jr.
