WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY... The 10th-ranked PC women's cross country team scored 70 points and won the women's race at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 14 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The top two women's teams advance to the NCAA Championship on Monday, Nov. 23 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. The PC women were led by senior Sarah Dupre of Kingston, Ontario who placed second (17:24). Junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. finished second for the Friars and fourth overall in a time of 17:30. Also scoring for the PC women's team were freshman Heather Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (20th - 18:22), sophomore Francine Darroch of Cambridge, Ontario (21st - 18:22) and junior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (23rd - 18:23). The women's team returns to action on Nov. 23 at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championship in Lawrence, Kansas. The PC women's team will be making its 10th consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championship.
VOLLEYBALL (16-14, 5-6)... . The Friars dropped two BIG EAST matches during the week at Connecticut and St. John's to snap a five-game winning streak. On Saturday, November 14, at UConn, the Friars fell 9-15, 10-15, 3-15. Freshman Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) led PC with 14 kills and 16 digs in the match. On Sunday, November 15th, PC traveled to St. John's were the Friars fell three games to one by scores of 15-9, 8-15, 14-16, and 9-15. Katinger again led PC with 19 kills and 20 digs in the matches. The loss to St. John's was extra costly as it eliminated the Friars from the BIG EAST Tournament. A PC win would have put the Friars in, but the loss caused a three-way tie with Pitt and St. John's with Pittsburgh winning the tie-breakers.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (1-2)...The Friars opened the season with three games in the first week. On Monday, November 9, the Friars lost 72-66 to Vanderbilt in the first game of the CoSIDA Classic. Jamel Thomas (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way with 22 points and eight rebounds. The following night, PC dropped a 79-77 decision to #25/#23 Texas Christian in the second game of the CoSIDA Classic. Thomas had 21 in the game with freshman Sean Connolly (Peabody, Mass.) getting 15 in the game. On Saturday, November 14, Providence faced #23/#25 Rhode Island in a battle for state bragging rights. PC took it right to URI forcing the Rams into 26 turnovers while making just six themselves. Thomas again led the Friars with 30 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard John Linehan (Chester, Pa.) dished out a career high 10 assists and had five steals. Connolly added 12 points while Erron Maxey (So., Lake Elsinore, Cal.) and Jamaal Camah (So., Salem, Mass.) each scored 11 points in the upset win. PC returns to action on Saturday, November 14th when the Friars face Texas-Pan American in a 1:00 pm game.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY (1-1-1, 0-1-1)... The women's hockey team posted a 0-1-1 mark on Nov. 14-15. On Nov. 14, the Friars were defeated by Harvard, 6-1, at Schneider Arena. Sophomore forward Jessica Tabb (Springfield, Mass.) tallied the lone goal for the Friars. Sophomore goaltender Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) registered 42 stops in net. On Nov. 15, PC skated to a 2-2 tie with the Northeastern Huskies. Freshman defenseman Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and senior forward Myia Yates (St. Paul, Minn.) each scored for PC. DeCosta registered 33 stops for the Friars.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY... The eighth-ranked PC men's cross country team scored 45 points and captured its second consecutive NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 14 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The top two men's teams advance to the NCAA Championship on Monday, Nov. 23 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. In addition to winning the men's team title, Friar junior Keith Kelly of Drogheda, Ireland won the individual title, finishing first in a time of 30:46. Senior Ben Noad of Bristol, England also ran a strong race for the Friars, finishing third in a time of 31:14. Senior Rick Bush of Clifton Park, N.Y. (ninth - 31:57), freshman Paul Reilly of Loughrea, Ireland (11th - 32:00) and junior Larry Morrissey of Waterford, Ireland (21st - 32:25) all scored for the Friars. The men'steam will return to action on Nov. 23 at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championship in Lawrence, Kansas. The PC men's team will be making its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL...(0-1).....The women closed out the exhibition season on November 11th against Lithuania at Alumni Hall. The Friars pulled out an 83-78 win behind 16 points from Chrissy Vozab (Fr., Amenia, N.Y.) and Meghan Hinds (Jr., Perrysburg, Ohio). Jen Gombotz (So., Southington, Conn.) added 14 points in the win. Jim Jabir's team then opened the regular season on Monday, November 16th when they traveled to Fayetteville, Arkansas to face the University of Arkansas. The 18th-ranked Razorbacks proved to be rude hosts as they downed PC by a 110-59 score. The Friars shot just 35.5% for the game and trailed 57-24 at the half. Providence was led offensively by sophomore Dani Trippany (Massena, N.Y.) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Chrissy Vozab was also in double figures with 10 points. The Friars return to action on Tuesday, November 24th when they host Wake Forest at the Providence Civic Center as part of a PC-ACC doubleheader. Game time is 5:30 p.m. before the Providence-North Carolina State game.
MEN'S (2-2) AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING (2-2)...The men's swimming team took a 128-111 decision against Holy Cross while the women lost by a point to the Crusaders, 121-120. The men were led by senior Jed Michnowicz who won the 50, 100 and 200 meter freestyle events. Kevin Reeder won in the 200 fly while Sean O'Connell took first in the 200 backstroke and Mike Frenza won the 400 meter freestyle. Senior Carla Clemente won the 100 meter free for the women. Kara Brennan took first in the 200 butterfly, Lori Cosman won in the 400 meter freestyle while Jane Thompson and Ally Buckley scored wins in the 200 backstroke and the 800 freestyle respectively.
FRIAR UPDATE - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Kelly led the men's team to a first-place finish and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship on Nov. 23 in Lawrence, Kansas. Thomas was BIG EAST Player of the Week after averaging 24.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in three games including a game high 30 in PC's upset win of #23-ranked URI, 87-63
