Dermot Galvin (So., Kilrush, Ireland)... Galvin finished 11th in the college championship division (14:05.22) of the 5,000 meters at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on April 28 and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Claire Shearman (So., Portsmouth, N.H.)... Shearman was fifth in the 5,000 meters college championship division (16:23.31) at the Penn Relays on April 27-29 in Philadelphia, Pa. With her time of 16:23.31, Shearman qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship.

SOFTBALL (20-27, 3-13 BIG EAST)...The Providence College softball team went 2-6 this week. The Friars lost all three BIG EAST doubleheaders to Connecticut, Rutgers and Villanova, closing out their league season at 3-13
The Friars picked up two non conference wins this week, sweeping Rhode Island, 5-1 and 5-2, on April 27. The wins put the Friars at 20-23 overall, giving them their first 20-win season since 1996.
In game one, Providence scored all five runs in the bottom of the fourth, led by Nicole Nelson's (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) three-RBI triple down the right field line. Nelson finished the game going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. PC's Melissa Peterson (Santa Ana, Calif.) improved to 12-12 on the mound, giving up just three hits while striking out five batters. The Friars had three runs in the bottom of the fourth of game two. Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.) crossed home plate first on a wild pitch, while Nelson knocked a two-RBI home run to center field. PC added two more runs in the fifth, as Jacklets hit a RBI double down the right field line to bring in Bonnie Skrenta (St. James, N.Y.), and pitcher Heather Nathan (South Hempstead, N.Y.) had a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in pinch runner Missy Francz (Westfield, N.J.). Nathan picked up her fourth win of the season, only allowing one earned run
This week, PC host Brown University on May 2 for their final games of the regular season. Game time for the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
MEN'S GOLF...The Providence College golf team closed out the spring schedule with a busy week as the Friars competed in two tournaments.
On April 25th, the Friars finished third at the URI/Cleveland Golf Spring Invitational which was played at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
PC shot a two-day total of 621 which put them 12 shots behind first place URI and two behind second place Hartford. Juniors Chris Hynes (Warwick, R.I.) and Justin Monahan (Winchester, Mass.) led the Friars by tying for eighth place with 36-hole totals of 154, just seven strokes behind tournament champ, Miroslave Holub of Hartford.
Ben Bridgeo (Jr., Southbridge, Mass.) tied for 19th with a 156, while Chris Tobey (So., Hopkinton, Mass.) tied for 24th with a 157 and Dean Cashman tied for 40th with a 162.
On April 29-30, the Friars traveled to South Bend, Indiana for the BIG EAST Championship which was held at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course. There, the Friars finished eighth of nine teams with a 36-hole total of 632 which put the team 52 strokes behind tourney champ Seton Hall.
Bridgeo was the Friars' top finisher with tie for 17th as he shot a 151, which was ten strokes off the pace set by tourney champ, Eugene Smith of Seton Hall.
Tobey tied for 27th with a 158, Hynes tied for 34th with a 161, Monahan finished 36th with a 162 and Cashman was 45th with a 180.
MEN'S LACROSSE (5-9, 4-5)... Did not compete. The Friars will return to action on May 6 for their final game of the season against Albany at PC's Glay Field.
MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK... The men's track competed at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on April 27-29. Sophomore Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) finished 11th in the college championship division (14:05.22) of the 5,000 meters and qualified for the NCAA Championship. Junior Ciaran Lynch (Limerick, Ireland) ran in the college division of the 5,000 meters and placed 11th in a time of 14:31.08. The PC's 4 x mile relay team of sophomore Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand), senior Larry Morrissey (Waterford, Ireland), sophomore Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) and freshman Chris Livesey (Preston, England) finished fifth in the Championship of America Division in a time of 16:31.26.
WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK... The women's track competed at the Penn Relays on April 27-29 in Philadelphia, Pa. Junior Rachel Hixson (Media, Pa.) and sophomore Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) were the Friars' top finishers at the Relays. Hixson finished seventh in the 3,000 meter college championship division (9:28.94) and Shearman was fifth in the 5,000 meters college championship division (16:23.31). Both runners qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship. The squad's 4 x 1,500 meter relay team placed 10th in the Championship of America Division. PC's team of freshman Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland), freshman Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) and Hixson (Media, Pa.) finished 10th in a time of 18:16.55.
