PROVIDENCE COLLEGE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Ken Leahy (Sr., Cohasset, Mass.)...
Scored four goals in PC's two lacrosse games last week and became the team's all-time leading scorer with 186 points (113 goals, 73 assists) in 57 games.

Chris Tobey (So., Hopkinton, Mass.)...
Turned in the best 36-hole performance of his career in leading the Friars golf team to a third place finish at the New England Division I Tournament, April 18-19. Tobey fired a two-day total of 74-74-149 to tie for third in the tournament. His nine-over par total was just five strokes behind the tournament winner.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK...
The Providence College men's track team's meet at the University of Connecticut on April 22 was cancelled due to inclement weather. The team will return to action on April 27-29 at the Penn Relays.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK...
The Providence College women's track did not compete. The team will return to action on April 27-29 at the Penn Relays.

SOFTBALL (18-21, 3-7 BIG EAST)...
The Providence College softball team went 0-2 this week, as they were swept by Boston College at home this season with a 10-0 loss on April 18 (five innings) and a 4-1 loss on April 20.

In game two versus the Eagles, PC's lone run came in the fourth inning with Kerri Jacklets (Jr., Sayville, N.Y.) scoring on an error by BC's shortstop. Senior Heather Nathan (South Hempstead, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 for the day with a double.

This week, PC will travel to Storrs, Conn., for a make-up double bill on April 25 before hosting the University of Rhode Island (April 27), Rutgers University (April 29) and Villanova University (April 30).

MEN'S GOLF...
The Providence College golf team turned in its top performance of the spring as the Friars finished third among 18 teams at the New England Division I Tournament at the Country Club of Fairfield April 18-19.

The Friars turned in a two-day mark of 312-306-618 to finish 27 strokes behind tournament champion, Rhode Island (300-291-591) and ten strokes behind second place Hartford (306-302-608).

Leading the Friars with the best performance of his career was sophomore Chris Tobey (Hopkinton, Mass.) who tied for third with a 36-hole total of 74-75-149, just five strokes behind URI's Jim Salinetti, the tournament champion.

Following Tobey for the Friars was Ben Bridgeo (Jr., South-bridge, Mass.) and Dean Cashman (Jr., Etna, N.H.) who tied for 22nd overall with 156. Bridgeo fired a 79-77-156 while Cashman had a 77-79-156.

Junior Chris Hynes (Warwick, R.I.) tied for 27th with an 82-76-158 and Justin Monahan roounded out the Friars' finishers with a tie for 37th with an 83-78-161.

The Friars return to action on April 24-25 when they participate in the University of Rhode Island/Cleveland Golf Invitational at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

MEN'S LACROSSE (5-9, 4-5)...
The Friars lost two games last week. On April 18, Providence was defeated by Brown, 10-3, at PC's Glay Field. Senior Ken Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) scored all three Friar goals and established PC's all-time scoring mark with 185 points. Senior goalkeeper Brian McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) made a seven stops in the loss. On April 20, the Friars were defeated by St. Joseph's, 15-9, at Philadelphia, Pa. Sophomore Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) led the team with four goals. Junior Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) added two tallies for the Friars. McCarthy made 21 saves in net.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (18-8, 9-7)...
The squad closed out its season with a ninth place finish at the BIG EAST Championships. The Friars posted a 2-1 record over the weekend. The team, seeded eighth, opened play on April 20 with a 5-3 loss to Rutgers. The Friars then moved to the consolation bracket were they defeated Connecticut 5-1, followed by Villanova, 5-1. Alison Carton (Millburn, N.J.) and Lindsey Gilloolly (Stoughton, Mass.) posted 3-0 singles records at the Championship. Brooke Rubin (Cranston, R.I.), Jessie LeMasters (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Gina Vlasek (Atlanta, Ga.) all posted 2-1 singles marks for weekend.

MEN'S TENNIS (13-9, 11-8)...
The Friars capped off their season with a solid performance at the BIG EAST Championship. The team entered tournament play seeded ninth in the 11 team field. The squad posted a 2-2 record over the weekend and returned home with a sixth place finish. The doubles team of Chris Riccobono (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Paco Fabian (Norwalk, Conn.) paced the squad with a 2-1 doubles record. Riccobono also posted a 2-0 singles record for the tournament. The team opened play on April 20, with a 4-1 win over eighth seeded Boston College. The Friars then fell to top-seeded Miami, 4-0. In the consolation bracket on April 22, the Friars knocked off the sixth seeded, Connecticut, 4-2, before bowing to fifth seeded, Rutgers 4-0.
