Paco Fabian (Jr., Norwalk, Conn.) led the men's tennis team to a 2-0 record last week, while posting two victories in the No. 1 singles position. On April 5, Fabian won his match 6-3, 6-2 versus Boston University. On April 6, Fabian posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over the University of Rhode Island.
Roisin McGettigan (Fr., Wicklow, Ireland) and Claire Shearman (So., Portsmouth, N.H.).. The two Friar runners helped the team to a fourth place finish at UConn on April 7. McGettigan won the 1,500 meters (4:30.58) and Shearman earned a victory in the 3,000 meters (9:46.91). Both runners qualified for the ECAC Championship.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK... Did not compete.
WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK... The Providence College women's track team scored 86 points and finished fourth of five teams at the University of Connecticut at Storrs, Conn., on Friday, April 7. The Friars were led by junior Kathy Sutkowski (Edison, N.J.), freshman Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland), sophomore Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) and sophomore Kathryn Casserly (Galway, Ireland) who all earned a first-place finish. Sutkowski captured the 800 meters in a time of 2:19.89 and qualified for the New England Championship. McGettigan won the 1,500 meters (4:30.58) and Shearman earned a victory in the 3,000 meters (9:46.91). Both runners qualified for the ECAC Championship. Casserly also ran a strong race and captured the 5,000 meters (17:36.55) and qualified for the New England Championship.
SOFTBALL (12-17, 1-3 BIG EAST)...The Providence College softball team went 0-3 this week, after losing both games at Quinnipiac, 0-1 and 1-3, on Thursday, April 6, and dropping their one game at Syracuse, 0-4, on Saturday, April 8, before having the second game called due to rain. The Dartmouth games scheduled for April 4 were postponed and will be played on Wednesday, April 19.
Against the Braves, junior Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.) led the Friars, going 3-for-5 at the plate in game one. Providence managed to score one in the fourth inning of game two, on a home run by Jacklets. She again led for Providence, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
This week, PC will travel to Holy Cross on April 11 and to Hartford on April 13 before returning home to host two BIG EAST doubleheaders this weekend. The Friars will take on St. John's on Saturday, April 15, for a 12:00 doubleheader, and Seton Hall on Sunday, April 16 for a double bill to start at noon.
MEN'S GOLF...The Providence College golf team finished ninth among 26 teams at the Yale Invitational last weekend in a tournament that was cut short due to snow on Sunday, April 9th in New Haven.
PC fired an opening round 321 on Saturday which put them 19 strokes behind tournament champion, Yale University, as the Bulldogs fired a 22-over par 302 on the 6,748-yard, par 70 course. Leading the Friars individually was junior Ben Bridgeo (Southbridge, Mass.) who tied for 23rd with an eight-over-par 78. He was follwed by Dean Cashman (Jr., Etna, N.H.) who tied for 40th with a ten-over 80. Fellow junior Justin Monahan (Winchester, Mass.) tied for 42nd with an 81. Sophomore Chris Tobey (Hopkinton, Mass.) checked in with a tie at 49th as he shot and 82 and Chris Hynes (Jr., Warwick, R.I.) rounded out PC's five golfers with an 83 which tied him for 59th overall.
The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 11th when they participate in the Big Five Championship at Point Judith Country Club in Narragansett, Rhode Island.
MEN'S LACROSSE (5-5, 4-2)... The Friars recorded a 0-2 mark last week. On April 5, PC was defeated by Stony Brook, 12-5, at PC's Glay Field. Junior Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) tallied two goals to lead the Friars. Senior goalkeeper Brian McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) made 20 stops in the loss. On April 8, PC was defeated by MAAC foe Marist, 10-7, at Glay Field. Dooley and senior Ken Leahy each added two goals in the loss. McCarthy made 16 saves for PC.
WOMEN'S TENNIS (15-5)(6-4)... The squad's only match of the week on April 9, vs, St. John's was postponed due to the weather. They will return to action on April 15 at Georgetown.
MEN'S TENNIS (10-5)(8-3)... The squad was 2-0 last week, earning a 6-0 win over Boston University on April 5 and a 6-1 victory versus the University of Rhode Island on April 6. Paco Fabian (Norwalk, Conn.), Keith Dressler (Cranston, R.I.), Chris Riccobono (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), Craig Roslund (Huntington, N.Y.) and John Sayward (Branford, Conn.) claimed two singles victories each in the two matches.
The team will return to action on Thursday, April 13, vs. Boston College at 3:00 p.m.
