Charles McPhee Named Director Of Athletic Development

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Thursday, February 5 that Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll named Charles "Chip" McPhee Director of Development for Athletics. McPhee replaces Blake James who left the College in November.
In his new position, McPhee will be responsible for enhancing the fundraising efforts and implementing new initiatives to develop a comprehensive Friar Athletic Fund. He also will be in charge of generating ongoing charitable gift support for the athletic programs and facility needs of Providence College.
"I worked very closely with Chip at the University of California," Driscoll stated. "He is energetic and enthusiastic. He has the experience that we need in this position. With our lofty goals, it will be imperative to continue our aggressive fundraising efforts."
McPhee comes to Providence College with significant experience in business and college athletics. Most recently, he was the East Coast and International sales account manager with Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Seattle, Washington. Prior to working for Starwood Hotels, McPhee spent one year (2001-02) as the Director of Operations/Sales for the Seattle Bowl where he generated significant resources in sponsorships and trade. He started his career in college athletics at the University of California in 1992. McPhee spent eight years in Berkeley serving as the assistant to the executive associate athletic director and from 1996-2000 he served as the director of football operations. In 2000, he was hired as an assistant athletic director for development at the University of Idaho. In that position, McPhee assisted with a $13 million capital campaign.
McPhee is a 1992 graduate of the University of Oregon. He also earned a master's degree in management from the University of San Francisco in 2000.
