Jaylin Sellers Named Second Team All-BIG EAST; Stefan Vaaks And Jamier Jones Named To All-Freshman Team

Sellers finished BIG EAST regular season play as the league scoring leader at 19.6 ppg.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today (March 8) that Providence College graduate student guard Jaylin Sellers (Columbus, Ga.) was named Second Team All-BIG EAST. It also was announced that freshmen Stefan Vaaks (Tabasalu, Estonia) and Jamier Jones (Sarasota, Fla.) were named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.

Sellers, who was named BIG EAST Player of the Week twice this season, became the ninth Friar all-time to lead the league in scoring (19.6 ppg in 20 conference games) and the first Friar since Devin Carter (21.4 ppg) accomplished the feat in 2023-24.  He has had an impressive season for the Friars as he also ranks first in the league in scoring in overall action (18.1 ppg).  He is shooting an impressive 43.9 percent (76-173) from three and 86.5 percent (115-133) from the free-throw line.  His free-throw percentage ranks first in the BIG EAST in overall action.  His 76 made threes rank s second in the BIG EAST.  He has scored 20 or more points in seven of the last nine games and 27 or more in three of those games.  Sellers has scored 20 or more points 12 times this season.  He registered a career-best 36 points in a win over Butler on February 4.

Vaaks, a two-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, averaged 16.2 points and 3.1 assists in 18 conference games this season.  In overall action, he has averaged 15.2 points and 2.4 rebounds.  Vaaks has a made a league best 78 threes on 238 attempts.  He also leads the team in assists with 95 (3.3 apg).  Vaaks ranks third in the league in free-throw shooting (84.6 percent, 88-104).  He has scored 20 or more points eight times this season, including a career-high 25 points at Villanova on January 30.

Jones was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and also was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season.  Jones averaged 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in BIG EAST play.  In overall action, he is averaging 12.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.  Jones has shot an impressive 57.4 percent (128-223) from the field this season.  He scored a career-best 23 points versus Villanova on January 13.
