Sellers led the Friars to a 2-0 mark last week after he averaged 27.0 points.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today (March 2) that Providence College graduate student guard Jaylin Sellers (Columbus, Ga.) earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors. It marks the second time this season he has earned the honor.
Sellers averaged 27.0 points per game while leading the Friars to a 2-0 mark last week. Sellers shot 65.6 percent (21-32) from the field, including 64.3 percent (9-14) from three. Sellers scored a game-high 27 points after shooting 10-14 from the field and 4-6 from three in the Friars' 94-84 win over Xavier on Feb. 25. He followed that up with another game-high 27-point performance in the Friars' 79-76 victory at Creighton on Feb. 28. Sellers shot 11-18 from field and 5-8 from three.
For the season, he is averaging 18.0 ppg (second in the BIG EAST) and 4.0 rpg. He is shooting an impressive 43.5 percent (67-154) from three and 86.7 percent (111-128) from the free-throw line. His free-throw percentage ranks first overall in the BIG EAST. In conference action, Sellers is averaging 19.6 ppg (second in the BIG EAST). He has scored 20 or more points in six of the last seven games and 27 or more in three of those games. Sellers has scored 20 or more points 11 times this season.
The Friars will return to action on Wednesday when they host Marquette at 7:00 p.m. on Peacock. It will be the team's final home game of the season and the six seniors' last home game.
