Dunbar appeared in 15 games for the Cavaliers as a freshman and has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's basketball Head Coach Erin Batth announced today [March 26] that Payton Dunbar (Narrows, Va) has signed an athletic aid agreement and will transfer to Providence College for the 2025-26 season. The rising sophomore will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Friars.

"Payton is a long, athletic, scoring guard who possesses impeccable work ethic and a high basketball IQ," Batth said. "She can score at all three levels with an exceptional mid-range pull up jumper. Payton has a great attitude and also takes her academics very seriously. We're excited to bring her experience to Providence as a member of our program."

Dunbar, a 5-11 guard, who was the recruiting target of multiple schools in the power four conferences in high school, played one season at the University of Virginia (2024-25) and appeared in 15 games for the Cavaliers as a rookie. Prior to attending Virginia, Dunbar played her high school basketball at Jefferson Christian Academy. She averaged 27 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block per game. Dunbar led her team to a National Association of Christian Athletes Championship in 2023 and claimed NACA All-Tournament honors in 2023 and 2024. She also was named Player of the Year by Max Preps (2023) and Player of the Year by the Independent Division (2024).

"I am not only excited about Payton as a student-athlete, but also as a person," Batth said. She is a natural leader who is very passionate about making people around her better."
