Sawyer's Two Goals Leads No. 15 Men's Hockey Over No. 11/10 UConn

Philip Svedeback stopped 37-of-38 shots for the Friars.

STORRS, Conn.  – Logan Sawyer scored twice and Philip Svedeback made 37 saves as the No. 15 Providence College men's hockey team defeated No. 11/10 UConn, 4-1, on Friday (Nov. 7) at Toscano Ice Forum.

NOTES

- The teams exchanged power plays in the opening 10 minutes with neither team converting on the man-advantage.

- The Friars cashed in on their second power-play chance of the evening as Logan Sawyer's spinning backhand beat Muszelik to give Providence a 1-0 lead. John Mustard and Andrew Centrella earned the assists on the play.

- Philip Svedeback stood tall in the first period, stopping all 19 shots he faced.

- The Friars extended the lead to 2-0 at 2:53 of the second period on Alex Rybakov's first NCAA goal on a solo end-to-end rush. Svedeback and Tanner Adams earned assists on the play.

- UConn got back within one on Ethan Whitcomb's power-play goal at 16:07.

- Sawyer connected for his second of the night at 9:26 of the third period off another assist from Mustard.

- At 13:57, Adams found himself on a clean breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot after getting slashed. He beat Muszelik over the shoulder and off the crossbar for his second goal of the season.

- Adams' penalty shot goal was the first one converted by the Friars since Trevor Mingoia on Oct. 9, 2015 at Miami and first attempt since Shane Kavanagh on March 10, 2017 at Notre Dame.

- Mustard extended his career-long point streak to eight games, registering a point in every game this season. He has 10 points on five goals and five assists in the first eight games this season.
