The NCAA released the latest Graduation Success Rate data on Wednesday.

NCAA GSR DATA

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The NCAA announced on Wednesday (Nov. 19) the overall Division I student-athlete Graduation Success Rate remained high at 90-percent for both single-year and four-year rates. Providence College maintained its 95-percent Graduation Success Rate in the latest data release.

Figures released Wednesday reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in 2018.

Eight Providence College programs posted a perfect 100-percent GSR for the cohort – men's soccer, men's cross country and track, women's basketball, women's hockey, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball.

GSR was created in 2002 in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students beyond what the federal graduation rate measures. The federal rate counts any student who leaves a school as an academic failure, even if the student enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter schools as transfer students.

The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate measurement of student-athlete success.
