Teneisia Brown recorded a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards; Sabou Gueye led all scorers with 16 points.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 65-40 victory over Central Connecticut (0-2) on Monday, Nov. 10 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence started the game with a 4-0 spurt but scored just three points over the next six minutes of action to find itself trailing 11-7 with 2:32 on the clock.
• The Friars closed the half on an 8-0 run, fueled by five points from Orlagh Gormley.
• Providence led 15-11 at the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• Central Connecticut opened the scoring in the second quarter, but the Friars answered with back-to-back buckets to take a 20-13 lead and force a timeout (6:41).
• The Friars used an 11-2 scoring run over the final 5:06 of the quarter to take a 15-point lead at the half (31-16). Teneisia Brown scored all eight of her first-half points during the run.
• The Friars outscored the Blue Devils 16-5 overall in the second quarter.
• Providence's defense held CCSU to 2-15 shooting in the quarter (0.133).
• Orlagh Gormley joined Brown in the scoring column with a team-best eight points in the first half.
3RD QUARTER:
• CCSU used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 10 with 6:19 on the clock (37-27).
• The Friars used an 11-0 run to push their lead to 21 and force and Blue Devils timeout with 2:18 on the clock (48-27).
• Sabou Gueye scored nine of the Friars' 11 points in the run.
• Providence took a 48-30 lead into the fourth quarter.
• Gueye scored 11 points on 5-8 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in the third quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars went on an 13-0 run during a five-minute span to claim a 65-36 lead.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Brown recorded her first double-double as a Friar and 32nd of her career. She finished the night with 12 points, 14 rebounds and three steals.
• Gueye led all scorers with 16 points and added eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
• Gormley finished the game with eight points and a career-high eight rebounds. She also matched her career high in assists, with six.
• Sophomore Audrey Shields scored a career-high 10 points on 5-8 shooting and added five rebounds, one assist and two steals.
• Five Friars recorded five-or-more rebounds enroute to a 55-39 advantage on the glass.
• The last time Providence recorded 55 or more rebounds dates back to Nov. 19, 2013. On that day, the Friars hauled in program-record 65 boards against UMass Lowell.
• Freshman Ashley Dinges hauled in eight rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. She added two points, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.
• The Friars dominated the paint, outscoring CCSU, 40-18.
• Providence recorded 18 assists on 27 made field goals.
