PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated the Harvard Crimson, 85-77, at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I.. This was the final exhibition test for PC as the Friars are set to host Holy Cross to open the season Monday, November 3.
Providence College Head Coach Kim English spoke postgame, "It was great to be back at the AMP, this is a talented Harvard team and it's a great tune-up going into Monday night against Holy Cross."
FIRST HALF:
• Harvard opened the scoring, but the Friars responded with a two-hand jam off an offensive rebound from Oswin Erhunmwunse (Benin City, Nigeria), and three-pointer from Jason Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) to take a 5-2 lead into the first media timeout.
• The Friars held a 12-7 lead at the 11:54 mark thanks to a spark off the bench from Ryan Mela (Natick, Mass.) and Cole Hargrove (Norristown, Pa.).
• Providence extended its lead after Duncan Powell (Dallas, Texas) knocked down a three-pointer in transition off of a Daquan Davis (Baltimore, Md.) to cap a 7-2 run with 9:29 remaining in the first half.
• The Friars grabbed a 26-16 lead at the 7:20 mark thanks to a Jaylin Sellers (Columbus,Ga.) three-pointer. The Crimson responded soon after to cut the deficit back to single-digits.
• Providence was able to run out to a 36-22 lead off a Jason Edwards layup with 3:52 remaining in the half. Edwards completed the and-one by knocking down the foul shot out of the timeout.
• Providence went into the locker room leading Harvard, 45-27. The Friars were paced by Erhunmwunse, and Edwards. Erhunmwunse poured in 10 points on 4-4 shooting as well as grabbing six rebounds. Edwards chipped in with eight points, including a made three.
• Harvard was led in the first half by Robert Hinton with six points.
• Rebounds were 19-17 in favor of Harvard at the half.
• Providence shot 15-33 (45.5%) from the field, 4-11 (36.4%) from three, and 11-18 (61.1%) from the free-throw line.
• Harvard shot 11-26 (42.3%) from the field, 3-13 (23.1%) from three and 2-5 (40.0%) from the free throw line.
SECOND HALF:
• Harvard opened the half on a 14-6 run before Duncan Powell knocked down his second three-pointer of the game to slow the momentum.
• PC owned a 56-43 lead at the under-twelve timeout after a string of defensive stops for both sides.
• Providence forced Harvard into its 20th turnover with 10:39 remaining, resulting in a breakout flush from Jaylin Sellers to cap a personal 5-0 run.
• Jamier Jones (Sarasota, Fla.) was explosive for Providence on both sides of the floor late-game. Jones knocked down a free-throw with 3:27 remaining to give himself 14 points, and PC a 79-68 advantage.
• Harvard cut the deficit to six with under two minutes remaining before Jason Edwards forced a turnover and went coast-to-coast to extend the Providence lead to eight.
• The Crimson knocked down a pair of free-throws to once again trim the PC lead to six with 55 seconds to go in regulation.
• After Harvard missed free throws, the Friars were able to force a turnover to seal the game.
• Providence defeated Harvard 85-77
• HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence finished 30-67 (44.8%) from the field, 6-24 (25.0%) from three and 19-30 (63.3%) from the free throw line.
• Harvard finished 30-60 (50.0%) from the field, 9-26 (34.6%) from three and 8-15 (85.0%) from the free throw line.
• Four Friars finished in double figures: Jason Edwards (16 points), Jaylen Sellers (14 points), Jamier Jones (14 points), and Oswin Erhunmwunse (12 points).
•Harvard outrebounded PC, 42-32
•Duncan Powell chipped in for Providence with nine points and eight rebounds.
•Robert Hinton finished with a game-high 21 points for the Crimson.
NOTES
• Attendance: 2,875
• The Friars have concluded their exhibition portion of the 2025-26 season
• With the win, Providence improves to 69-24 all-time in exhibition games.
