Lilly Tuck And Patrick Thygesen Earn 2023-24 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar Athlete Awards

Each institutional winner receives $2,000 toward graduate studies.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference announced on Aug. 27, the 2023-24 men's and women's Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards.  Providence College cross country/track athletes Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Ontario) and Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) each earned the honor.
 
Tuck, who graduated in May with a double major in psychology and biology and Magna Cum Laude honors, finished her academic career with a 3.83 cumulative GPA.  She earned All-BIG EAST Academic Team honors four times.  In her final year at Providence, she helped the cross country and track teams excel.  Tuck scored in all five of the cross country races she ran in 2023-24, including the NCAA Cross Country Championship.  During the indoor track season, Tuck won the 5,000 meters at the Boston University Terrier Classic.  She also earned All-BIG EAST accolades in the 5,000 meters after she finished second at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship.  During the outdoor season, Tuck was third in the 5,000 at the Penn Relays.  She also competed in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Regionals.
 
Thygesen graduated from Providence in May with a degree in quantitative economics and mathematics and Magna Cum Laude honors.  A three-time All-BIG EAST Academic Team selection, he finished with a 3.78 cumulative GPA.  He earned All-BIG EAST accolades when he captured the steeplechase at the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship.  He also received All-BIG EAST honors when he helped lead the distance medley relay team to a second-place finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championships.  He earned another All-BIG EAST honor when he placed 18th at the 2023 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship.  Thygesen competed in the NCAA Outdoor Regional Track Championships in the steeplechase.  He is returning to Providence for graduate school this year to pursue a master's degree in economics.
