Former Friar Josh Oduro To Play On New Orleans Pelicans NBA Summer League Team

Oduro averaged 15.9 points and 7.5 rebounds last season for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Former Providence College center Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) will be playing for the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2024 NBA Summer League.  The 2024 NBA Summer League will run from July 12-24 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
Oduro made his mark in the BIG EAST in 2023-24.  He transferred to Providence after a four-year career at George Mason.  Oduro, who ranked 10th in the BIG EAST in scoring (15.9), also ranked seventh in the league in blocked shots (1.3), fifth in field goal percentage (.527), seventh in free-throw percentage (.819), fifth in defensive rebounds (5.2), sixth in rebounding (7.5) and ninth in offensive rebounds (2.3).  He registered five double-doubles in 2023-24.  Oduro also posted nine performances with 20 or more points, including a season-high 32-point effort versus Creighton on February 7.  For his efforts he was named Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST.  He also was selected to participate in the 2024 NABC Reese's Division 1 All-Star Game on April 2.
 
"Josh is a special player," Head Coach Kim English said.  "This season, he competed against some of the top players in the country in the BIG EAST and he put up impressive numbers while earning All-BIG EAST honors.  I am excited to see him in the NBA Summer League where he will have an opportunity to work hard, show his ability further and continue taking steps to earn a roster spot in the NBA."
 
During his five seasons of collegiate basketball, Oduro scored 1,913 points (12.9 ppg) and he grabbed 976 rebounds (6.6 rpg). He also shot 52.7 percent (740-1,404) from the field.
