Hudson Malinoski scored the lone goal for the Friars on Saturday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 13/14 Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by No. 16 UMass, 3-1, in the Hockey East Quarterfinals on Saturday (March 16) at Schneider Arena.

NOTES

- UMass got on the board fast, as a centering pass from Lucas Mercuri found Ryan Lautenbach in the slot, who snapped one home at just 1:07 into the opening period to put the Minutemen up 1-0.

- The Minutemen tacked onto their lead just over three minutes later, as Ryan Ufko collected the face-off win from Kenny Connors and fired a wrist shot into the back of the net from deep, doubling UMass' advantage at 2-0.

- Neither team connected on offense in the second period, resulting in UMass' 2-0 lead through forty minutes. The Friars edged the Minutemen on the shot chart in the middle frame 7 to 5.

- UMass netted their third goal of the afternoon late in the third period, as forward Kenny Connors found the top shelf from in front of the net to put the Minutemen up 3-0.

- Providence connected for their first goal of the game just 28 seconds later, as Hudson Malinoski ripped a one-timer from the top of the right circle, ringing the far post and netting one for the Friars' on the 6-on-4 power-play. 

- Three Friars finished the game with a point, headlined from a late third period goal from Hudson Malinoski.

- The Friars outshot the Minutemen 28-25, headlined by a four-shot performance from Liam Valente.
