MADRID, Spain– The Providence College men's basketball team opened its tour in Spain with a 103-70 win over the Madrid All-Stars in Madrid on Friday, August 18.  The Friars are making their first foreign tour since they went to Italy in 2018 and their first tour of Spain since 1977.  Sophomore Corey Floyd (Franklin, N.J.) led the Friars with 17 points on 5-9 shooting overall, including 5-8 from three.  Junior Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) and graduate student Will McNair (Philadelphia, Pa.) each added a double-double.  Hopkins had 11 points and 12 rebounds and McNair added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

"I wanted to see how well we could compete tonight; how well we executed on both sides of the ball; and I wanted to see our togetherness," Friar Head Coach Kim English said.  "I thought we had some good moments and I saw some areas that we need to improve.  I'm really excited to get back and watch the film and see those areas that we can get better.  Ticket [Gaines] and Slim [Rafael Castro]  both played very hard and they were both unselfish.  In basketball if those are your superlatives you will have success.  A bunch of guys had some good plays tonight."
