Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Big East Matches To Villanova and UConn

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team fell in a pair of BIG EAST matches against Villanova and UConn over the weekend. On Saturday, Villanova earned a 5-2 win over the Friars at TRI West Bay in Warwick, R.I. On Sunday, the Friars fell in a road contest at UConn by a 5-2 score. The Friars fell to 0-8 overall in dual match play this spring.

The Friars continued their strong performance in doubles play, earning both doubles points on the weekend.. The duos of Katie Mulvey/Vannelie Melendez, Darah Ross/Mae Abreu and Lauren Carson/Julia Migliorini scored doubles victories for the Friars, with Mulvey and Melendez winning their matches each day. Ross scored Providence's lone singles win against Villanova out of the No. 2 slot on Saturday and again out of the No. 1 slot at UConn on Sunday.

Providence returns to action at home on Saturday, March 4 against Merrimack. The match will be held at Centre Court in East Providence at 11:30 a.m.
