Ticket Gaines scores a game-high 21 points on a career-high seven three pointers.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Wagner (2-4), 86-52, in a non-conference match-up at the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Tuesday, November 28 in Providence, R.I. Ticket Gaines (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded a career-high seven three-pointers on 10 attempts. Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, Garwey Dual (Houston, Texas) registered a career-high five assists, and freshman Rich Barron (Chicago, Ill.) scored a career-high eight points. Gaines finished with 21 points and Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) added 20 points. Carter had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. With the win, Providence improved to a 6-1 record on the season.
"I thought this was one of our best efforts of the season," Head Coach Kim English said. "Moving the ball and sharing the ball all the way from start to finish was important for us."
FIRST HALF:
• Wagner started the scoring after Tyje Kelton nailed a quick three. At the 18:04 mark, graduate student Gaines answered with a three-pointer from the from top of the key, 3-3.
• Providence went on a 9-0 run spearheaded by Gaines who had two three-pointers. With 16:14 on the clock, the Friars led, 9-3.
• At the first media timeout, the Friars led, 9-5.
• Gaines sunk a three-point jumper to extend the Friars to a 13-point lead. With 7:37 left to play, Providence led, 66-32.
• With 5:59 remaining in the half, Providence went on a 13-1 run to extend the lead to 38-20 entering halftime.
• Gaines and Hopkins both registered double-digit points in the first half. Gaines finished with 15 points, shooting 5-7 from three. Hopkins shot 5-8 from the field and 2-4 from three to finish the half with 13 points.
•Providence shot 14-28 (50.0%) from the field, 7-17 (41.2%) from three and 3-4 (75%) from the free throw line.
•Wagner shot 8-30 (26.7%) from the field, 3-8 (37.5%) from three and 1-2 (50%) from the free throw line. Keith Higgins, Jr., led Wagner with 14 points in the first half.
SECOND HALF:
• Gaines opened the scoring for the Friars with a second-chance three (18:20 mark). Friars led, 41-22.
• Providence went on a 14-0 run over a 2:43 span, shooting 5-6 from the field. Leading into the first media timeout of the half, Gaines drained a three-pointer to put the Friars up, 52-22, at the 15:37 mark.
•With 7:11on the clock, Devin Carter entered the double-digit scoring column for Providence following a layup in traffic. Providence led, 72-38.
• Wagner picked up the pace late in the second half with a 7-0 scoring drive over a 1:19 minute span. With 3:14 left in the half, Donovan Santoro snapped the Seahawk's run with a three-pointer from the corner of the court. Providence led, 81-47.
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS:
•Providence finished 15-27 (55.6%) from the field, 6-15 (40.0%) from three and 12-19 (63.2%) from the free throw line.
•Wagner finished 10-35 (28.6%) from the field, 4-11 (36.4%) from three and 8-13 (61.5%) from the free throw line.
• This marks the second consecutive game that PC has shot over 50% from the field and two players have scored 20 points or more.
• Wagner's Melvin Council, Jr., led the Seahawk offense with 17 points.
• Freshman Rich Barron (Chicago, Ill.) scored a career-high eight points and registered four rebounds.
• Providence scored 15 points off the bench, 30 points in the paint, and 14 points off turnovers.
•The Friars improved to a 5-0 record all-time versus Wagner, including a 4-0 mark in Providence. The Friars have posted a 44-5 mark all-time versus teams from the Northeast Conference.

•The Friars will play Rhode Island in a non-conference match on Saturday, Dec.2 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
