Providence College Finishes the Year Ranked 2nd in DI-AAA

Friars had several teams make the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22.

PROVIDENCE, R.I – On June 27, Simon Gray, President of The Division I – AAA Athletic Directors Association announced that the Providence College Friars finished in second place in the All-Sports Trophy rankings.   The All-Sports Trophy rankings are based on team's success in the Learfield IMG College Directors Cup.  The Division I – AAA ADA's mission is to enhance initiatives common to its Division I – AAA membership (the 98 Division I institutions that do not sponsor football). The Division I – AAA ADA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). 

The Friars boasted an impressive total of 245.00 points in the Learfield IMG College Directors Cup, placing them 79th amongst all Division 1 programs nationwide. The top three for Division I - AAA programs included Pepperdine University, which finished in first, with a total of 375.00 points and a national raking of 62nd place, as well as Gonzaga University, which finished third with 227.00 points, securing a national ranking of 84th place.

One of the more notable contributors to the Friars' success this season was the women's cross country program. The team was awarded a first-place finish in the 2021-2022 DI – AAA ADA All Sports Standings for women's cross country. Finishing in 26th place in the NCAA Championship, the team collected 48 points. Men's basketball capped off an outstanding 27-6 season after falling just short in the Sweet Sixteen. The team landed an impressive 13th place national ranking with a total of 64 points. The men's soccer team finished in 18th place with a record of 9-3-4 and advancing in the NCAA Tournament. This provided the Friars a total of 64 points in the collegiate rankings. The women's soccer team added 25 points after wrapping up their season with a winning record of 10-7-3 and qualifying for the NCAA Championship.

The Friars have climbed 127 spots in the Learfield IMG College Directors Cup standings since last season, advancing from 206th place to 79th place.
