EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Providence College continued competition at the 2022 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championship at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. on Thursday, Feb. 24.
Will Layden claimed a bronze medal for Providence in the 50-yard freestyle. His third-place finish produced a school-record time of 20.48.
Brian Cantin (21.08) and
Aidan Hughes (21.15) also scored for Providence College in the 50-free, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively.
Liam Casey-Minnick and
Luke Scanlon each earned points in the same heat of the 200-yard IM. Casey-Minnick finished 14th (1:52.80), while Scanlon touched the wall in 1:56.07 for 16th place.
Grace Erickson and
Madeline O'Connor each earned points for the Friars in their respective events. Erickson finished 21st in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.14), knocking nearly two seconds off of her prelim time. O'Connor placed 22nd in the 200-yard IM (2:08.11).
The Friars featured teams in both the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relays. Medals are scheduled to be awarded on Friday, but Thursday results had Cantin,
McGovern Brown, Hughes and Layden winning the bronze medal for the men with a third-place finish (1:22.12). The women's team, comprised of
Sally Alrutz,
Courtney Reilly,
Nicole Boutry and
Taylor Loud, placed seventh (1:35.42).
